QIA Fundraiser Month

The Queer Indonesia Archive (QIA) is a volunteer-run and non-profit collective that is committed to the ongoing collection, preservation, and celebration of queer histories throughout Indonesia. For the month of May we are running a special program to reward those who donate in support of the archive. All donors will receive rewards in recognition of the incredible contribution that our donors make to keep QIA running. More details on why your donation matters and how to donate below.
Why Donate?
Queer Indonesia Archive is a non-profit project which does not receive any ongoing funding, and it is entirely volunteer and community run. This means that our work is only possible through a combination of volunteer work, community contributions and project based funding.
All our funds go directly to support our work:
- Funding our field trips to meet with community members and organisations to help digitise their materials.
- Training our volunteers in processing and preserving our materials
- Covering our IT and digital safety costs
- Funding curators and exhibitions to help us celebrate our collection.
As our collection grows, the cost of web hosting, collection management, and material processing continues to increase.
We are endlessly thankful for all the initiatives and donations that have helped to keep QIA going. Each donation helps us to cover unexpected costs, acquire materials for preservation, and to support our ongoing efforts to collect, preserve, and celebrate queer histories across Indonesia.
What your donation supports
Field Trips
We work with community members to digitise materials and record oral history interviews across Indonesia. Donations are used to support volunteer field trips, from arranging transportation and accommodation to acquiring equipment.
Material Collection
QIA is always seeking out materials that are missing from our collection. This means that we are consistently acquiring magazines, books, comics, cassettes and posters that reflect Indonesia’s queer history, which are often sold online in Indonesia. Your donation will ensure that, when these materials do come available, we are able to purchase them and ensure they are digitised.
IT Costs
Our digital collection now contains thousands of objects. Ensuring that this incredible collection is stored safely and securely is an increasing cost to our project. We also maintain a number of digital exhibitions and use online software to connect our team of volunteers that are based all over Indonesia. Your donation directly supports this work.

How does it work?
All donations made to the archive in May 2024 will receive a complimentary gift from the team at the Queer Indonesia Archive. These gifts were made possible because of the contributions of an incredible collection of Indonesian Artists. See their work below and then see their profiles at the bottom of the page. But firstly, how do you get your gift?
Get your complimentary gift in 3 easy steps:
- After making your donation, click the ‘Confirm Donation’ button found on this page.
- Fill in and submit the form.
- Starting in June we will send notifications of postage of the donation rewards
To reduce waste, QIA will begin the gift production process at the beginning of June (just in time for pride month). We have several options for our donation reward.

FAQ
Answers for those who need the detailsAre shipping fees covered by my donations?
We cover shipping fees in Indonesia or Australia. For gifts sent to places outside of the two countries, we sadly will have to charge you for shipping.
Why are the tiers different value amounts?
To reduce waste and avoid large expenses for the products we have used local suppliers in each country, but to ensure that all the money doesn’t just go into the hands of manufacturers we had to adjust the reward tiers. Because the cost of production in Indonesia and Australia is quite different.
Can I just buy the gifts without making a donation?
Our gifts are only available to those who made a confirmed donation.
Will the postcard and t-shirts be available for purchase after the fundraising month ended?
Currently there are no plans for QIA to sell merchandise on a regular basis.
I’ve made a donation, but I forgot to fill in the form until May 2024 has ended. Can I still get my gifts?
Yes, please fill out the confirmation form and contact us at [email protected]. But please allow for delays in production and shipment.
